This is fascinating. I hadn't heard of Neville and I do consider myself a Christian, but I love the idea that God is within each of us. Maybe our world would be a better place if we could all see each other that way.

1000% if we could all see each other as expressions of the same Source, all of us embodiments of God just walking around trying to find our way in this wilderness, I think our whole planet would be so much better!

((Hugs)), Meg! I've never heard of Neville Goddard and I would say I'm compelled to learn more, but honestly I think I've just gotten accepting that I am just me living in the world and that is enough.

And I think that's a wonderful place to dwell! Thank you for reading and being part of the conversation, Dee!

Thanks for sharing all of this Meg. I love hearing your journey. I also left Christianity in the 2021-2022 era, so I can relate to a lot of your feelings. And I love this info about Neville Goddard. It aligns a lot with what I’ve come to believe.

Thank you so much for saying this, Jen. In all honesty, it has helped me shift from fear of what people will say or think to having the courage to talk about this more openly when I think of so many people who have left Christianity or any religion. I would love to build a gathering place for us!

A gathering place would be delightful! My husband’s livelihood is still wrapped up in the Christian world, so I have not felt free to express myself or share my journey. I believe it is inhibiting some of my healing, so I try to find more private spaces to share pieces of what I’m learning. Thanks for making space for these thoughts. ❤️

I'm totally digging this convo! 2 weeks ago someone tried to explain Law of Assumption to me. I've done some light reading, trying to wrap my brain around it. The serendipitousness of this is striking to me!

Thank you for continuing to share tlyour story.

WOW! True serendipity!! I would absolutely start with Neville Goddard's The Power of Awareness - it's a great starter.

Thank you so much for doing this! I love hearing different spiritual journeys! His ideas sound a smudge like A Course in Miracles….. i totally connect with so much of what you said. I love when your soul just knows….

Yes, I would absolutely say there is some crossover with A Course in Miracles. I have that and started it but didn't make it very far but I should do that!

Thank you for continuing this series. And I know you've been unsure how to talk about this, but I think you're doing a great job! I've always appreciated how thoughtful/intentional you are with what you share - whether for a favorite book, a shade of lipstick, or something deep like mental health or spirituality. Public vulnerability with grace is a gift to your readers/listeners. And I come away from these essays the same way as I did from some of the deeper sorta-awesomes - more thoughtful myself, and like I've just experienced real, human connection over the ether. So thanks again. And I am laughing because I DID think his accent would be transatlantic. 😆

Fascinating! I was raised Catholic but no longer practice. My BFF was raised the same and about 10 years ago I was shocked when she said the Bible was just “made up stories”. I have chewed on that and don’t know what I think, but I would absolutely be open to reading Neville’s works.

Also, this restaurant has heavy Mai Tai vibes. 🍹

This was probably THE biggest hurdle for me in exploring spirituality beyond Christianity. However, I've come to this wonderful place of believing the Bible to be FILLED with powerful spiritual truths about the experience of mankind! I read the Bible and return to favorite passages often! I just no longer see it as a 100% accurate record of history.

I love that even though our spiritual quests have led us to different teachers there is so much that overlaps!

I have been listening to different scholars talk about the Bible as a work of history or literature and less as a faith manual and it has deepened my appreciation of it. I have left the idea of innerrancy long behind and my faith is better for it.

I think you might also reasonate with the Society of Friends (formerly known as Quakers). They deeply hold to the idea that the light of God is within all people so we should treat all people well.

I think that faith and spirituality is wide and deep and that we can all find the path that resonates with us in if we are truly seeking.

I so appreciate this series and your vulnerability in sharing your spiritual evolution. As someone who didn’t grow up in an evangelical space, it helps me to understand better the mindset of someone who did. I’ve never heard of Goddard but I feel like a long time ago I came to a similar conclusion about all religions and their stories. I’ve been a Joseph Campbell fan for half my life and I think he really got that ball rolling with me, I wonder if they ever crossed paths?

Meg Tietz's avatar

Thank you for your words, Michelle! I don't know if Neville and Joseph Campbell crossed paths but I know that Campbell saw the subconscious mind as a realm of immense power, and that is a HUGE component of Neville's message!
