Hello, my darling Gems of the Gemini Wrongs Collective!
I have to start by saying that when I read the news of the US military airstrikes in Iran on Saturday night, I had an unexpected physical response to it. I felt both like I was sinking into the ground and also like there was an incredibly heavy weight on my chest.
I can’t even say it was a crash-out proper; it was more a matter of sitting for a long time with a thousand-yard stare into the middle distance. My girls (ages 20 and 17) were pretty concerned, and we found ourselves in this weird role-reversal where they were telling me it was (probably) going to be okay, and I just kept saying, “I can’t believe it’s all happening again.”
As many of us of a certain age know, there’s a blessing and a curse to living through enough of history being made that you start to see the patterns repeat.
I was able to snap out of my nearly nonverbal malaise by the next morning, and one thing that helped a lot was returning to my favorite meditation for healing the root chakra. That reminded me that this might be a good time to revisit this post from January 24th of this year about why focusing on grounding practices will be so pivotal in 2025.
I pulled a card for you for this Mystical Monday which I’ll share at the end of this, and please know, too, that I am holding your all so close in my heart and energy today.
Let me be the first to assure you that you aren’t imagining it. It feels like we’ve lived a whole year, and January isn’t even over yet.
A few weeks ago, my YouTube homepage suggested this video to me from British astrologer Pam Gregory and her deep dive into the themes for 2025. It’s an hour and fifteen minutes, and I’ve watched it/listened to it a few times now.
Perhaps it is Pam’s soothing voice or her elegant delivery of an advanced understanding in the patterns of mundane astrology1 that draws me back in. I’m not sure, but if you want to check it out, too, here is the video:
But if you don’t have time or aren’t interested in watching the entire thing, here are some themes she highlights:
2025 is a 9 year (2+0+2+5 = 9), and 9 years are years of completion. Look for endings and new beginnings.
The energy of 2025 is fast and it is volatile. Look for a particularly sped-up feeling from July to November when Uranus moves into Gemini2.
In Chinese astrology, this is the year of the wood snake. The wood snake is associated with secrets, and this is a year that has the potential for revelation of many secrets - perhaps regarding hidden truths in recent times, but also much bigger truths about the history of humankind.
When a snake sheds its skin, that snake is never the exact same snake again. She says a few times that things will not be the same again after 2025.
But it’s not all bad! This is a big year of awakening and of the expansion of consciousness!!
Last November, Pluto entered Aquarius, and it will remain there until 2043/2044. This doesn’t happen very often, but when Pluto is in Aquarius, we generally see major societal change. For example: 1778-1798 when we saw the American and French revolutions as well as the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Going back further, Pluto was in Aquarius around 1533. The fledgling ideas of the Protestant Reformation which began in 1517 spread like wildfire across Europe in the 1500s and Christianity was never the same. Pam and other astrologers believe the energies will be right for a collapse of the Old Order during Pluto’s visit to Aquarius, and here in 2025, we are at the nascent cusp of those changes.
One of the biggest questions that 2025 will ask is what does it mean to be human?
There is SO MUCH more material that she covers in that Themes of 2025 talk, but one really big one stood out to me. It can feel very scary on the personal level when things fall apart3, and Pam pointed that while there will be a lot of fire and water energy available to us this year, there is not a lot of earth energy.
To lessen the negative impacts of this lack of earth energy in 2025, Pam suggests we emphasize grounding practices often in our daily lives.
What is a grounding practice?
Essentially, a grounding practice is something that allows you to put your awareness on your connection to the planet, and further, encourages you to restore energetic balance between you and planet Earth.
What are the benefits of grounding?
One of the most positive benefits of a grounding practice is calming the nervous system. Perhaps you are already familiar with some of these practices based on your experience in therapy or other mental health supports. In addition to restoring calm to your nervous system, grounding techniques can also increase emotional resilience and shift your focus away from perceived threats and help you feel safe in your body4.
How do I ground?
Fortunately for all of us earth-dwellers, there are many ways you can practice grounding.
The easiest grounding practice is simply connecting your body to the earth. (This is also sometimes known as “earthing.”) Walk barefoot outside. Lay down outside. Dig your hands into soil. Hug a tree. And even if you aren’t up for public tree-hugging, just resting your hands on a tree’s trunk or touching its leaves will work. Dip your hand into a natural body of water. I hate to say it, but touching grass can even be helpful!
In lieu of time in nature because of bad weather or bodily ability, try a grounding mat.
According to Hinduism, the chakras are the energy centers in the body. Feeling ungrounded can indicate an imblance in the root chakra. Try a simple meditation to bring balance back to your root chakra. My daughter Dacey and I both really like this one from Great Meditation on YouTube.
Hold a grounding stone. Obsidian, smokey quartz, black tourmaline, and red jasper are just a few of the crystals5 that can aid in a grounding practice.
Breathwork is another good technique related to grounding. Pam Gregory has a super simple breathwork exercise that she calls Yogic Baby Belly Breath. I like to use the free version of the Othership app which usually has five or six sessions you can access for more intensive breathwork sessions.
Yoga6! Yoga helps open blocked chakras, creates a physical connection to the earth via the yoga mat, improves mindfulness and calms the nervous sytem. Our girl Adriene has a delicious practice for grounding into gratitude that focuses on the root chakra, but if you need something quick, you could try these grounding yoga poses.
Look, even if you think astrology is all blue skies and bullshit, it’s hard to deny that the energy right now is very chaotic, very despairing, very spinny.
If ever there was a year to get real real serious about inhabiting your body in a way that feels safe, nourished, and supported, it’s 2025! I’m not going to preach at you about getting off of social media or shame you for rolling your eyes at opening blocked shakras. I just want to offer a solid invite to take back your power from our unfeeling overlords and colloborate with the energetic forces available to you via this beautiful planet Mother Gaia and allow yourself to be held in her maternal embrace, okay??
Let’s declare 2025 the year we all got ourselves grounded, because at this point, what do we have to lose?
Now go find a tree to hug!
Okay, back to June 2025 Meg with your card for this week:
Part of Earth Goddess’s guidance is this ritual which I think is so perfect for right now:
SACRED RITUAL
Lie on the earth, if you can, or rest somewhere that feels right for you. Imagine, feel, visualize, or pretend that the earth energy is rising up through your feet, into your belly, and then up to your heart. She is giving you a shaktipat7, a boost of divine feminine energy from the great goddess, to help you feel confident in your own power.
If you know anyone who could use some guidance and reassurance on the how and why of grounding for the chaos of 2025, please do share this post:

With a heart full of love and hands full of crystals that I’m unsure of how to pronounce,

Mundane astrology is the study of how astrological influences affect politics, weather, disasters, etc. It’s not about a personal application so much as it’s about how the energies of the sky impact our Earth.
🎶 Some people claim there’s a Geminiiiiiii to blame 🎶
Believe it or not, this isn’t just my usual woo-woo bullshit. Here’s one of dozens of articles on the benefits of grounding from a non-out-there source!

I was a yoga skeptic for years until I did Yoga With Adriene’s month long challenge in January 2023. I fear the yoga enthusiast in your life is, in fact, correct. It’s a life-changer.
In Hinduism, the transmission of spiritual energy from guru to disciple
I am just starting to dip my toes into astrology (it feels very overwhelming) but the idea of a lack of earth energy in 2025 is intriguing to me. All my big three are Earth signs and I’ve been feeling so unmoored this year. I definitely plan to incorporate more grounding practices. Thanks for the recommendations!
I, personally, would like less of this change and energy 🤣🤣🤣. A new baby is due any day and talk about change! My kids are off balance and I'm trying to figure out how to be there for them. It's also what used to be my wedding anniversary. I don't like it. So with the unwanted change and disription, I will find my peace. To the happy shifts and wonderful change, I will find my balance!
