I make no promises, but I'll see what I can do!

This made me laugh AND miss raising and teaching teenagers! My daughter is an elder Gen Z, so I still have a little bit of a foothold into that world, but barely. Please keep sharing your knowledge!

I think of Gen Zers as kids (and often refer to them as such), but yeah - the older ones are fully grown adults!

Ok, this is very fun and very necessary. It made me laugh and shake my head!! I knew none of these. My husband is a chemistry professor and so he works closely with Gen-Zers and I should send this to him haha.

Can you imagine you are 19 years old and your chemistry prof says in lab, "So I'm gonna take this fuck ass beaker and ..." LOL

Keep it coming Meg! This GenX mama needs all the help she can get. My GenZ son had the nerve to call me a Boomer

AJ LOVES to call me a Boomer or vintage or - recently - DECREPIT. So I just lean into it. "Sorry I forgot to make that appointment. I am just an addled old Boomer after all!"

I love that! Use the Boomer dig to your advantage. Genius!

I have a handful of grown Gen Z'ers so I get to hear (and incorrectly use) their language all the time. So "swag" used to be a catch-all word for ok, that's good, fine...Apparently it's out and the new word is "slay." I still use swag in my kids group chat because I'm fun like that. Apparently "bussin" was in for a minute too but out by the time I started using it.

Apparently, according to my Gen Z-ers, “bussin” applies (applied?🤷🏼‍♀️) ONLY to food. As in, “That dish was BUSSIN. Thx bruh!”

My middle daughter (elder Gen Z) told a story over Christmas how she and her team convinced their Millennial boss that “bussin” meant COOL AS SHIT and they proceeded to laugh at him innocently using it incorrectly (she works in IT in a university setting).

These kids… Always teaching us oldies something!!! 😂

I remember my parents saying things like "radical" and "yeah dude!" just to piss us off and boy did it! And now I do it to my kids because it is SO FUN to make them cringe!!

It is SO FUN! My kids are grown now and pretty much beyond me embarrassing them in public. I gotta get my kicks somehow.

So many thoughts here. The first is-please continue this series! Lex made me do a whole video one night trying to guess the meaning of common words she uses daily. Rizz, Naur, eat no crumbs left, simp…I think I got like 2 right out of 20. It pissed me off more than anything because when did this happen?! When did we stop being cool! Lol! Also-imma need an invite to that spam account. 😜 (I do consider myself privileged to be friends with my daughter on their spams).

Oh you are very lucky then! Dacey doesn't actually post on IG hardly at all. She just uses it for messaging (so many campus organizations use IG messages as their main form of communication? LIKE WHAT?!) and to watch Reels. AJ won't tell me her spam OR her main account lolololol Also I sent you a request from MY spam!

Omg PLEASE keep going with this series! I laughed so hard and learned a lot! Elder millennial here 👋🏻 with my oldest now 12, soon to be 13 and my middle 11. We’ve been having fun with them with all the lingo, but I feel like we’re just dipping our toes into it. My daughter seems to have a two week rotation on new words, and I feel like we can’t catch up! And the spam accounts! Had no idea!

Soooooo many new words, and they drop out of use sooooo fast. My kids always tell me that by the time an adult has even heard of a word, the kids aren't saying it anymore.

Yes I agree with everyone, continue this series! The fuck ass name tik tok was helpful...I just need to think of a name for my anxiety voice. I'm a young Gen X (born in 1979) and my kids are older gen alpha so I'm a little out of the loop with Gen Z!

Expand full comment

It's so fun to have Gen Alpha kids, too! I especially looooooove seeing my Gen Zers be so confused about what their Gen Alpha brothers are into hahahhaha.

Haha, thank you for these explanations! I'm a elder millenial mom with young gen z kids and I appreciate it. :) Had no idea about the other meaning of "stud." On another note, what's your favorite Drarry fic?
